I think that even freeware should have a little competition, so here it goes. I
also thought that the FreePPP icons were fairly bad, and while Mr. (Ms.?) Hender's
were definately better, I still wasn't satisfied. So I whipped these up. The
ReadMe file included in the other update was *PRIMO*, though, so I stole it. Just
follow the bouncing ball, people.
FreePPP Icon Update ReadMe
What is it?
This is a quick set of resources to replace the icon resources in the FreePPP 2.5
distribution. It requires ResEdit, which is available at
<ftp://ftp.support.apple.com/> in the utilities directory. <and other palces too numerous to mention>
Files Included:
FreePPP CS Icons.rsrc <Modifies the FreePPP Control Strip, in case there's any question>
FreePPP Setup Icons.rsrc
~FreePPP Menu Icons.rsrc
FreePPP Icons.rsrc
PPPMenu Icons.rsrc
How do I install it?
1. Launch ResEdit
2. Open one of the .rsrc file with ResEdit
3. Open the corresponding FreePPP file
4. Select the .rsrc file window
5. Select All (Command-A)
6. Select the corresponding FreePPP file's window
7. Paste (Command-V)
IMPORTANT: A dialog box will come up asking you if you want to replace resources
with the same ID. You must answer with the "Replace" button.
8. Close the files
9. Repeat for the other FreePPP parts
Why is it here?
I found the quality of the FreePPP small icon to be very ugly. So these patches
replace them with a more "styling" set wherever it appears.
Additional Notes:
IMPORTANT: DO NOT MODIFT THE FREEPPP MDEV (in the extensions folder) WHILE YOU ARE
CONNECTED, THIS CAN CAUSE A CRASH.
You will probably need to rebuild your desktop to see the results, you must restart
in order for changes to the system menu to take effect.
In the control strip, when you are connected, the phone will appear with a cable
attached, when you are disconnected, the phone cord will not be shown. Sorry, its
impossible at this time to do the same with the System Menu.
This has not been made into a updater yet, due to the 3 or 4 different releases of
FreePPP 2.5, this distribution method assures 100% compatibility with all 4
versions.
The FreePPP group is free to incorporate these icons in their next release of
FreePPP w/o further permission.
<Had to edit out the original author's email, here, but this in mine - twrigley@uci.edu. Please feel free to send me any messages you like, except hate notes because I plagerized a ReadMe. I promise to split any profits generated from this with the auther, 50/50, if that helps any...>
And as always, there's no promise it won't crash you, and I warranty it for the
